Save The Providence Waterfront!

Tax deductible
We are Friends of India Point Park, and we need to raise $15,000 by the end of May to help pay for our legal case to bury the power lines on the Providence-East Providence waterfront.

Burying these lines on the Providence-East Providence waterfront will benefit Rhode Island for generations to come: residents and visitors alike will enjoy the natural beauty of our waterfront parks at the Head of the Bay unspoiled by the blight of high-voltage overhead wires. And burying them will provide multiple long-term benefits by increasing tourism, economic development, property values, and the tax bases of both cities, as other cities and states have found.

Although political leaders and multiple civic groups and government agencies support burying these lines, National Grid has consistently sought to undermine the burial project, even while professing to support it. Recently, the State Energy Facility Siting Board, siding with National Grid, decided to leave these lines overhead.

The Board’s decision would leave the overhead wires highly visible from the heavily traveled I-195 gateway to the City, obstructing water views on the land between the Providence and Seekonk Rivers along the length of India Point Park.

Friends of India Point Park, has joined the City of Providence in asking the Rhode Island Supreme Court to overturn the Board’s decision. Our appeal is the essential next step to stop the Board from allowing National Grid to replace 100-year-old electrical towers with new ones, which would dominate our waterfront for another century

We will be extremely grateful for your tax-deductible contribution to help us keep up the fight.

Imagine our waterfront parks at India Point, Bold Point, and the linear park bridge over the Seekonk. With stunning water views. Without power lines and towers. And then take action. Please join our fight with your contribution. It’s now or never.
