Save The Trust

The CHAT Trust first opened its doors in 1992 to serve the people in the West End of Newcastle.

Over the years, CHAT has reached hundreds of people around the West End of Newcastle through many different means. Currently, we run a massive youth project called The BASE (Building Aspirations in a Safe Environment) for young people between the ages of 13 and 21 and we get involved in a lot of community outreach projects as well, including the renowned Reclaim the Lanes project.

Our primary goal is to give a voice to the voiceless to help them live their dream. We've helped to improve countless peoples lives, giving them opportunities they may never get otherwise. Some people who have been part of our project have gone on to do incredible things, from getting Masters degrees to supporting artists like Akala, from becoming managers in businesses to starring in Oscar winning movies. Some even go on to give back to the community again, becoming community and youth workers themselves. The transformative effect of having a place like CHAT Trust for our participants has been amazing to see over the years, especially given the known alternatives are jail, gang related incidents, injury, or even death.

Any money, be it from donations or from funders, has gone straight into the project be that buying/replacing equipment or paying staff members to work with the community. Every last penny has gone into keeping the Trust alive with our workers and volunteers going the extra mile to keep the building and the services it provides running. Unfortunately funding for our type of work (Holistic Community and Youth Work) has been cut numerous times over the years. This has made it more difficult for us to secure grants to keep us running. We have spent our reserves on keeping our doors open, and this way of running makes us look unstable. Funders, understandably, are choosing to back organisations who are more financially stable than we are, and this is why we are turning to you. Your donation, however small, can help us to prove that we are worth it. That funders would not be backing a project, but a community at large. They won't just be funding a manager, squirreling money away into an offshore bank account, but rather they'll be funding positive improvements for a community who deserve it. Even if you can't afford to donate, thank you so so much for giving us your time to read this, and if we could ask one last thing of you, we would like you to share this on to your friends, on facebook, twitter, anywhere.

What we need is to raise £15,000. This will not only keep us until the end of the financial year, but it will again help us prove to funders that the people of the West End of Newcastle are worth fighting for. That they're worth investing in. With your help, we can continue fighting together to forge a better place for everyone.

From the bottom of all our hearts, thank you.
