#SaveTheSlip

Why donate for this fundraiser?

Truly, to #SaveTheSlip and to support the following restaurant teams during this difficult time: Sam Miller's, Mom Siam's, The Urban Farmhouse, The Angry Mussels, Southern Railway Taphouse and Siné Irish Pub

rallyforrestaurants.com said it best …

“We all have a place. A spot. A special restaurant, cafe, bakery, or bar in our local neighborhood.

We have a favorite item on the menu, a server we recognize, or a dessert we love. And we spend money at these spots. Lots of it. In fact, the average American spends nearly $3,000 each year dining out.

But now our local restaurants are in trouble. The restaurant community is being rocked by a dramatic decline in sales and is quickly running short of cash to support day-to-day operations and staff wages. In many cities, restaurant sales are down as much as 80% as a result of COVID-19. That’s putting hard-working owners, operators, staff, delivery drivers, farmers, and just about everyone in the food industry at risk.

Restaurants operate on thin margins, and with social distancing and governments enforcing takeout only at local restaurants, this industry needs our support now more than ever.”

That’s why, on behalf of restaurants in Richmond’s historic Shockoe Slip, I am asking you to step up. Contribute what you can by donating to #SaveTheSlip. I am attempting to raise $10,600 for our favorite restaurants so they can count on that income to keep things running and Shockoe Slip thriving!

All donations will go directly to locally owned restaurants in Shockoe Slip and their workers!

Every time, we raise $1,000, I will distribute the funds to one of the local restaurant teams - please donate now so we can help our local restaurateurs as soon as possible!

What:

Lars (that’s me; the General Manager of the dual-branded Courtyard and Residence Inn Richmond Downtown located in the historic Shockoe Slip neighborhood) will run the entire Virginia Capital Trail (www.virginiacapitaltrail.org) – a total distance of 51.2 miles – in one day.

My goal is to raise, at minimum, $200 per mile for a total of $10,400 or more! All of the proceeds will go directly to the restaurant workers of independently owned Shockoe Slip restaurants!

If you sponsor a whole mile ($200 minimum donation) and if you so wish, your name/organization will be shared as valued supporter of local restaurant workers on this site and various social media channels. On race day, we will take and post a picture thanking you at the mile you sponsored!

Other runners can join – at any point and for any distance – they just need to provide moral support along the way. Having said that, additional fundraising and awareness efforts in support of this cause by other runners are obviously welcomed - no minimum or financial commitments! If you’re a runner interested in joining this cause, contact me!

When:

Friday, Oct 3, 2020

Run starts at 6am at the Virginia Capital Trail’s 0.0 mile marker in Jamestown. The run ends at the official end of the trail at the 51.2 mile marker in Shockoe Bottom.
