Hi, my name is Janice James and in 2004 I founded Specktra.net, a fan based cosmetics community. For 10 years Specktra has shared information and beauty news as well as offered a home for those who wished to be passionate about a shared hobby. In 2011 Specktra transitioned to a custom forum platform with a technology partner. Now, in 2015, the custom forum platform we are on will no longer be hosting our little corner of the web. Specktra is faced with moving off this custom platform under a very short deadline.
There has been so much going on behind the scenes here for the past 4 weeks. We've come up against several roadblocks, the most difficult challenge being there is no conversion tool to export the forum data to a new forum platform. Specktra's technology partner is only providing a database dump of the forum and is otherwise not assisting with the transition of the site. In addition to that challenge we also have a very short time frame to complete the migration, until the end September 2015. Essentially what this means is if we do not overcome these hurdles in our path we could potentially have to close our doors for good. This is not something I want to consider so I am doing everything in my power to continue to move forward. This campaign is the last step needed in ensuring the continued health and success of the Specktra.net site.
After several weeks of searching for a company or developer who would take this challenge (yes, we were actually turned down by several people who had completed this work before for other sites on the custom platform and will not touch it again) on we finally found someone who has successfully completed a conversion from the proprietary platform to vBulletin and would take Specktra's conversion on. Unfortunately, as you can expect with something this complex and unique the cost is extremely high. The total conversion will cost at minimum $10,000.00 USD just to preserve the existing site. I have committed as much of my own funds to this effort as possible leveraging my personal savings and 401K to ensure the site continues on for everyone who enjoys the time they spend there.
I need your help with the gap between what I can personally come up with and the final amount billed for the work. I am stretching myself as thin as possible to continue covering my personal living expenses. Literally every dollar this campaign raises ensures Specktra stays online for years to come.
