Sherap Woeser's kidney transplant

Donation protected

This story needs an open heart to read it.

Sherap Woeser is 20 years old. He is an intelligent and hard working Buddhist monk that was born in Chharka village which is in a remote area of west Nepal called upper Dolpo. He comes from a humble background and a poor farming community.

In 2008, he was admitted in Triten Norbutse monastery and undertook the basic novice training as well as the preliminary studies for 5 years. Subsequently he enrolled in the 13 years-program to become a Geshe which is equivalent to a PHD in traditional Bön & Buddhist Studies. Among his fellow students, Sherap Woeser is known as very committed student and determined in his spiritual practice. He has a very warm and cheerful personality, and a good hearted, friendly and enthusiastic attitude.

Unfortunately, in April 2017, he was diagnosed with end stage renal desease ( both his kidneys failed). Since then he has been hospitalized and now he is having hemodialysis treatment   twice a week in Katmandu.   After having looked for different options, his doctors emphasized the absolute urgency for a  kidney transplant.

His father has decided to offer one of his kidneys to his son and all the necessary tests required by law have been done. They need to undertake the transplant in a good hospital in India and after having enquired in several hospitals there, the Fortis Hospital in Chandigar (Punjab) is the suitable facility to undertake the surgery and further treatment.

As the financial condition of Sherap Woeser's family is very challenging,  until now the expenses have been covered only with the help of friends and the Triten Norbutse monastery.  It is very hard for them to afford the expense of the transplant because the estimated cost of the surgery and all collateral hospital expenses for the donor and patient, as well as room and board is about 800,000 Indian Rupees which is around 11,500/-euros.

He has been  taking dialysis for a long time and the doctors  consider it urgent to do the trasplant surgery as soon as possible.  So Sherap Woeser and his father together with his mother and another friends are leaving in few days for India to undergo the surgery.

Therefore, we appeal to your generous and open heart for your support to save Sherap Woeser's life so that he can continue his studies and be healthy and happy.

Your generous donation and support is like a drop of blood that keeps his life line and it is highly appreciated. Thank you for your help!
