Welcome to Scout Field, an oasis of open green space, unlike any other in lower Westchester County.  A gathering place for residents of Westchester County that reflects the diversity of the communities that surround it. Whether picnicking under the century old trees, a strolling or bicycling down a meandering wooded path along the Bronx River, joining in a game of volleyball or soccer, or playing fetch with your favorite four legged friend, many County residents and their guests come to Scout to enjoy this welcoming communal activity space.

However, this sanctuary is now under serious threat.
The Westchester County and Town of Eastchester government authorities and politicians have surreptitiously developed and are on the verge of implementing an expensive plan to develop Scout Field into a restricted-access youth sports field for the exclusive use of the Eastchester Schools and youth sports programs. You can read further details here.  Worst of all, this agreement and plan was prepared and signed-off on without any adequate public knowledge or discussion---in fact, without any input or notice to thousands of local residents and current users of Scout Field. It is our belief that a majority of County and lower Westchester resident would not support this costly and environmentally unsound plan to develop Scout Field for such a narrow purpose---and would consider it an arbitrary seizure of public parkland by a small coalition of special interests. The proposed athletic field development project will destroy Scout Field's uniquely beautiful pastoral landscape and eliminate one of the last open-use green spaces remaining in lower Westchester County. The development plan threatens the health of the local environment and wildlife that live in the surrounding parkland running alongside the Bronx River, adjacent to Scout Field.

The project calls for the destruction of native, long-lived trees, tall grass hedges, native wild shrubs and smaller trees, upsetting wildlife, and endanger the fragile Bronx River Water Shed environment. A review of the proposed development suggests the plan has been improperly vetted for environmental impact consequences, and that it’s likely it fails to fully comply with State Environmental Quality Review (SEQRA) requirements. No independent environmental review and assessment of the Scout Field development proposal has yet taken place.

Consequently, please join The Friends of Scout Field in opposition to this shortsighted proposal to ruin one of lower Westchester’s few open-use green spaces. All money raised in support of this effort to block Scout Field development will go towards hiring an environmental lawyer and organizing additional public support for the cause. We’re committed to protecting and preserving Scout Field's environmental health and beauty, as well as its open access and use by all the people of lower Westchester County.
