Richard Sherman and I met and fell in love at first sight. I wandered into the SPCA by my mom's house one lazy Sunday afternoon about eight months ago and locked eyes with the most adorable, most obese cat I had ever seen in my life. He was stuck in a cardboard box that had a hole in the front and in the side, with his little head sticking out of one hole and his giant body spilling out of the other. I knew at that moment that I would take him home and be obsessed with him forever.
The amount of love and appreciation that this cat has shown me since day one actually inspired me to start volunteering for a local cat adoption agency. Saving such a lovely abandoned kitty made me hope that everyone could experience the joy that adopted animals can bring!
Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting my Sherm would know what a loveable, social cat he is. He's chatty and cuddly and LOVES being the center of attention. Lately though, that hasn't been the case. He has seemed off for the last couple weeks, refusing to eat, not wanting to interact with anyone, generally looking depressed. In the last couple of days, he has taken a turn for the worse and I decided that it was time to take him to the vet today. It turns out that due to his refusal to eat combined with his excessive body fat has caused his liver to become severely distressed. If I had waited much longer to take him in, I probably would have lost my big guy..
This is where I need your help.
I spent $400 today to have him examined, and they decided that it would be best to keep him hospitalized and on an IV for 3 more days. It costs approxmately $300/day. If he isn't getting better by Monday, they are going to do an abdominal ultrasound ($400) and put a feeding tube in and keep him for an additional few days (I stopped listening to dollar amounts at that point and started getting faint..)
