Save RG STARS RG Facility

The Okanagan Rhythmic Gymnastics Club (ORGC) was founded by Canadian Olympian Camille Martens in 1997 after she returned to Vernon following the Olympic Games in Atlanta. She later founded the Cirque Theatre Company (CTC). More recently, many in the social media community know the team as RG STARS.

After renting a variety of compromised spaces from 1997-2008, the ongoing search for a permanent facility for the Okanagan Rhythmic Gymnastics Club (ORGC) was over and Camille purchased and opened the current facility on East Vernon Road.

ORGC has a well rounded team of athletes (ages 5 to adult) in levels from beginner all the way up to International Elite. Our recreational classes are unique, in that we offer participants a chance to perform in our high calibre productions as well as community demonstrations, while they develop their athletic and artistic skills through exploring the world of RG.  Athletes in this program discover what it means to perform but more importantly they learn about team building, goal setting, having fun, giving their best effort and courage. Though our Competitive programs we offer an elite environment where athletes become leaders, performers, and successful competitors.  Okanagan Rhythmic Gymnastics has had national team members (top 10) representing Canada since 1999.  Our clubs members have successfully participated in events including Commonwealth Games, Pan Am Games, Junior Pan Am Games, World Championships, World Cups and Grand Prix World Cups and many International competitions.  We are a passionate club and our goal is to help each individual reach their dreams in a safe, whole-person focused environment.

In the last 3 years our club has faced some very difficult times with our Regional District of the North Okanagan(RDNO).  In the beginning of this process we weren't sure if ORGC was going to make it through the many hoops they were asking us to jump through.  We have had a lot of volunteer help along the way including an amazing lawyer, an excellent engineering company and some unbelievably motivated and helpful parents!  Without the help of these people the club would definitely having been shut down due to an overload of expenses.

We hope we are on our final leg of the journey with satisfying the many requirements of the RDNO. Most recently they have required us to make costly changes to our septic system and to our dance studio. Without these changes we will not be able to operate and we will again face being shut down.

The cost to fix everything is approximately $25,000. This is beyond all the expenses that Camille, ORGC and fundraisers have already paid out which is approx. $30,000 to date.

We are hoping to raise $25,000 by April 1st, 2018 so that we can complete construction of the new septic system as soon as the ground thaws. We would also like to complete any required renovations on our studio in order to be fully functioning again by the summer.

The Okanagan Rhythmic Gymnastics Club, which has brought only positive recognition, development and successful events to the North Okanagan, has never received any public funding and depends solely on private donations, volunteers and athlete’s fees to operate.

Please help this diverse (high performance, developmental and recreational) program continue to operate.  Would you consider supporting this successful community program by donating to Save RGSTARS RG Facility?
