Save Pixie

This is the story of Pixie, a small kitten who needs a $2,500 surgery to live.

Pixie was found by my brother, Stephen, on a cold and snowy February day. She was severely underweight and suffering from pneumonia. My parents and brother nursed her back to health, and she got the all clear from a vet. I took her in March because she couldn't stay with my brother... my parent's dog couldn't handle a little kitten in the house. :-P Of course, my family and I fell in love with her! She was sweet and playful but still so small. We have two cats already and they were, well, less than impressed with her! haha! but they tolerated her presence, and one of them occasionally plays with her. 

In March I took her to get spayed and declawed, and the vet had some concerns with her initial physical. After x rays, she found that Pixie has a diaphragmatic hernia, and her lower abdomen organs are coming through the hernia into her lung area, compressing them. She was most likely hit my a car before Stephen found her, causing this injury. (Why didn't the first vet catch this?? We assume because she was so sick he treated what was obvious.) Also, Pixie is playful, cuddly, scratchy and energetic like any kitten! We can't tell there is anything wrong with her except that she breathes a little heavy. 

Most cats with this condition do not live longer than 6-9 months. We think she is about 5 months now. The surgery to repair the hernia, along with all the vet treatments and medications, will cost $2,500. There is a hospital in Columbia at the MU veterinary clinic that will do the surgery and has had high success rates with it. My vet also has a $100 coupon for them. (Hey, a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks!)

We need help raising this money. Most people would euthanize, but we just can't bring ourselves to do that while she acts completely healthy and normal! We are asking for donations of any kind- every dollar matters! In fact, if all of my Facebook friends donated $1, that would be $537. And if all of Stephen's Facebook friends donated $1, that would be $1,214. (Yeah, he is WAY more popular than me.) We have some overlap in friends, but ya'll can give $2, :-) and that would give us a total of $1,751. So imagine how fast we could raise this money if you gave $5 - $25!
