Help Save Lives! One Pet At A Time!

Pickens County Humane Society is a Rural, NO-kill animal shelter located in Liberty SC.

The mission here at PCHS is to eliminate animal suffering & over population, to educate the public, and
to house and care for stray and unwanted animals until we can place them in their forever home.
Pickens County Humane Society is a non-profit organization that relies on the community for financial
support and fundraisers held by the organization for sustenance. Currently, PCHS does not have any
corporate sponsors or grants and does not receive any appropriation from the State, County, nor any
city within the County we serve.

PCHS is continually battling financial hardships.

Each year, PCHS hosts several fundraisers and events to help obtain funds for operations. 2020 has been
exceptionally challenging for us all. Not only has there been a significant depletion in monetary donors,
the cancelation of 40 fundraisers and events throughout this year has severely impacted our program
negatively. Although, we have not been able to host our annual, large social gatherings we have been
able to shift some events to online forums to pursue our fundraising efforts.
We have had many setbacks with major facility repairs, including needing a new ground cover for our
parking lot, a new roof and both HVAC systems. We have been fortunate to have assistance with some
of these repair costs, but not without monetary loss from our program’s operational funds.

On average, PCHS’s monthly operation cost is $20,000 including utilities, payroll, general maintenance,
and medical care that is provided to each animal. On average we face a $5000 deficit, monthly.
PCHS has a passion for the purpose we serve.

PCHS receives 700-1,000 animals each year into the no-kill facility. PCHS invests approximately $220 per
animal that is accepted into the program. Others exceed that average, depending on their individual
needs. PCHS partners with local veterinarians for their services of spay/ neuter, rabies vaccination and
other medical concerns due to not having a vet on staff. To adopt an animal from PCHS, the fees are
$100 for adult cats/ dogs and $115 for puppies and kittens. All adoption fees include full vetting. Since
PCHS recoups less than what is invested, there is always a financial loss, which puts significant strain on
continuing operations.

So far this year, we have accepted 676 animals into our no-kill program. These are animals from kill
facilities, abusive or neglectful homes, strays roaming the streets, or just simply unwanted by their
families. Out of those 676, we have found homes for 646!! This is more than numbers; these are lives
being saved!

If you believe in the power of passion and the purpose we serve, we ask you to please stand behind us
and our need to remain operational. We want to keep our doors open to those in need!
Help us be the voice for those that go unheard!
