I have relapsed and have leukemia (AML) again. This time I am asking for your help as I need a stem cell transplant which is only partly covered by our health insurance. The full cost of this medical event is going to be somewhere between $800,000 to $1.0M US.
I have just completed two rounds of chemo the first at MD Anderson in Houston and the second just recently at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance aka the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in order to get back into remission before receiving the transplant.
Regardless of whether I go into remission my oncologists say the transplant has to go ahead. Thankfully a 100% match donor has been found and is willing to donate her stem cells.
The cost of setting up in Houston, then moving to Seattle, having the chemo treatment, finding the donor and finally having the stem cell transplant is huge. Because my insurance company has agreed only to partially fund my transplant we have to bridge the rest. My husband Kris is in the process of selling our assets at home in Hawaii to raise money for the mounting bills, but this will simply not be enough.
My friends Mike Anda and Heddy Hedström are heading the fundraising campaign as I am just not well enough to do it myself. I need to raise US$300,000 to cover medical costs, accommodation and living costs here in Seattle for the next 6 months plus recurring checkups at the Seattle Center after that.
Mike & Heddy will post updates on my progress here and at the Save Our Sue Facebook page they have also set up to report on my progress.
Any and every assistance is generous and so very greatly appreciated. Thank you.
