Please Help Save the Nyack Art Beast!
My name is Lex Reibestein, and I am the curator and artist-in-residence at the artists' collective known as The Beast with a Million Eyes. We are a storefront bastion of creativity, providing a home for emerging artists from throughout the greater New York metro market.
Situated in the arts-minded village of Nyack, NY, hard along the great Hudson River in the beautiful and historic lower Hudson Valley, we have been open since April. I have been the proprietor of a gallery previously. When presented with the opportunity to initiate a creative space in an historic building in downtown Nyack, I made a decision for all artists with a similar dream - I jumped in full throttle. Here would be what I envision as a safe entree for emerging artists to professionally connect with the public, as well as an inviting space where established artists of various mediums could be part of the burgeoning creative scene in Nyack.
Not coincidentally in a time when government support for The Arts is fast disappearing, the artists' collective known as The Beast With a Million Eyes was born. But it took much longer to begin to shape this storefront into a viable, whimsical gallery/studio/performance space than we envisioned. We've had some very successful shows, have plans for some extraordinary events that continue to support the creative arts community, and ideas for collaborations with local charities and people-first organizations. We're providing amazing opportunities for new and unknown (but VERY talented) artists to sell their ART!
But...we need your help. I need your help. Rent in the NY area, in case you are not aware, is not inexpensive. We need to raise $25,000 - soon - to allow this vital space to continue on its mission, money that will temporarily go for large ticket expenses like rent and utilities. We think it's worth it. We think in such a tumultuous world, it is imperative for all of us to support the Arts, which helps us to maintain our humanity and our collective touch points to all that is good in the world.
