#SaveMikesFace: Help a cancer family secure a home

Donation protected
TL;DR: A good man who is in treatment for an aggressive form of cancer and his family need a place to live. You can help them purchase in RV by donating toward this $9,000 campaign, which also covers approximately four months of lot rent.

The longer version: Michael and Erica Glass (and family) moved to Georgia to start a new phase of their lives earlier this year. Shortly after they got there, Mike was diagnosed with cancer and had to quit work to get into treatment, which — because of the stage and progression of the cancer — was necessarily immediate. Mike is an organic farmer, and the family’s housing was tied to the work. They found a temporary place to live, but because of circumstances out of the control of anyone involved (a rolling snowball of death and sicknesses in the host family), they now have to leave that situation earlier than expected.

As is the story in much of America, a major sickness has been a serious financial strain on the Glass family, which means that their credit is tenuous and finding an apartment is difficult.

The goal right now is for them to purchase a used RV so that they can stay in place and Mike’s course of care and treatment won’t face a disruption. They need $5,000 to do that.

Here is a [slightly edited from Erica’s posting] picture of where they are now, healthwise: By the time Mike underwent a 20-hour resection and reconstructive surgery at Emory University hospital, his tumor had grown to 10 centimeters. He’s been in and out of the hospital several times over the last few months. His medical needs continue to grow as more about his total health picture is revealed. His doctors are amazed at his recovery but he still has a long way to go. The family recently learned that a second type of cancer developed; even though it was on a lymph node that was removed during surgery, he still needs approximately two months of radiation treatment to address it.  He will also need a second surgery is needed to construct his soft palate.”

Erica is a student midwife and owns a small business. She also practices Reiki. She has continued to try to work and support her family while they’ve lost Mike’s income, but her primary focus at this time needs to be caregiver and mother. Mike will start to receive disability payments in January, but anyone who has dealt with the system before knows, it helps but isn’t a lot. Helping them get a roof over their heads that is their own will be a serious step toward stability.

Erica and Mike have four children; one who is an adult (Jordan) and three who are still living with them (Ivy, Ash, and Christian).

Thanks for your consideration.
