We will be leaving out some details due to the fact we do not want the previous owners to find this poor fellow and try to claim him.

Started out a beautuful day on Saturday, January 20th 2018, while my father was vactioning in the southern USA from Iowa. He was driving himself and five other relatives to different scenic locations and as he pulled out into the street he seen a dog laying in the street along a curb looking up at him. He couldn't believe his eyes at the sadness.

There he was a little white ball of fur covered in blood. My father, being the animal lover he is acted quick and pulled over and immediately went over to him. He was conscience but obviously in shock. After further review of the situation you could see where he had been hit in the road and that someone had moved him and just left him there to die.

My father and relatives searched the area for the owners and did find the them with help from a neighbor that stopped by. They also called animal control. The owners denied ownership even though they called the dog by name once they got to the scene. After hearing what animal control had to say about paying for the cost of care or disposal they walked away like they did not know who the dog belonged to.

It was at that point they knew we had to do something and stepped in. They decided to call him Magic to give him a fresh start from the neglectful life he has lived up to this point. They took him to the only vet that was opened that day. After assesment the vet suggested putting him down. All his toes were broken on his right paw, large lacerations on his right paw, genitals, and a large hole in his abdomen. Numerous bruising on his body, air trapped in his chest cavity, and swollen bruised testicles. My dad had them bring Magic to him in an exam room and they had a good chat. His eyes were clear, his breathing was fine and he looked at him as if to say he wanted to live. My father told the doctor to save him if possible. The next day my dad visited him the hospital. Magic is currently on an IV drip for pain, antibiotics and fluids. Has a splint for his broken toes. He is eating, drinking and lifting his head. Surgery is not scheduled yet to suture him up and check for internal injuries due to his critical condition. He has not had to have a blood transfusion which is a good sign but he has a long recovery road ahead of him.

With his critical care at the hospital and surgeries the bill is currently estimated at $4,300.00. His after care will also be expensive and my father may have to fly back to pick him up if he cannot take him home on 1/28/2017 when he is scheduled to head back to Iowa.

Once my dad can get him home he plans to care for him as he does with his two Border Collies, MoMo and Billie, his horse Jobie and cat Thomas.

My dad has mesothelioma cancer and is fighting with all of his family behind him, supporting him and all of his decisions along the way, he knows hope more than most.  My dad is now asking for help to care for Magic because he is not giving up on Magic, just as no one has done to him. Thanks for your help and may God bless you.
