Save La Petite Mort!

When we first opened our shop on Orchard Street over two & a half years ago, the block was relatively quiet - minus a few galleries & food spots. Since then, the neighborhood has gone from subtle obscurity to a staple in every tourist's cool guide to NYC. And for that I can't tell you how lucky we are. In many ways we were doing great, but it was only a matter of time before our financials finally caught up to the fun accolades and then we fell a month behind in rent...

Our uh *ahem "opportunistic" landlords, noting the potential neighborhood change and realizing they could charge twice - if not triple for our 350 sq. ft. space - quickly moved to start proceedings for our eviction in order to nullify the remaining 7 years on our lease. They got some high powered lawyers who convinced them that the best way to move us out quickly was to tack on every single late fee per month for the past two years (that was never brought up prior to this) and demand that we pay for their lawyer and court fees. Mind you they still have over 6 months of our security deposit.
You don't need an education higher than a 3rd grader to know that this is completely unfair.

So now La Petite Mort needs a favor...All we need is a minimum of 360 friends with $20 bucks each, or 7200 friends with just one dollar to spare.

We started this business with just a tiny 401k package and lofty dreams. Everything we did was soaked in the sweat of our friends charity & talents. Our philosophy was simple: bad behavior & fine dressing. Our medium was everything - from carefully curated 90's pop vintage, to modern fashion made by local and international designers. The art openings, the tiny concerts, the parties - the shop became an extension of all the things we loved and wanted to desperately to share.

For almost 3 years we've carried out our wildest wishes and we can't thank you all enough. We did all of this with zero sponsors, zero PR representation, and unfortunately zero working capital. We both kept jobs and spent everything we had to keep it running, as anyone in retail knows the 1st couple of years are the most difficult - but the closer we got to hitting our stride, the higher our costs became. And here we are now - needing whatever support you can offer. So now we're asking all of you for help - a favor if you will. Help us to continue helping creatives everywhere, while building our brand into the company it can be.

Ideally $15k would be great as it would cover all our costs, but we need a minimum of $7,200 in order to start the negotiations. The remaining balance would go towards other store related debts, and any additional money will be used on 3 huge art installation projects that OJ has planned -a love note if you will, to the Lower East Side that raised him.

This has truly been a humbling experience for us. It's not every day you get to gentrify yourself out of the neighborhood you grew up in (LOL mom we've made it!), but then again nothing in our lives has been anything remotely normal. And we owe this to each and every one of you. So please, let’s keep the LES in the Lower East Side - and we promise not to throw a Rent type musical as neither of us can sing.

From the bottom of our hearts,

Thank You.
