Save Grandma from Neglect

Donation protected

About 5 years ago, my uncle took my Grandmother from my Mother's care. Before he took her, my mother had my grandmother down to 8 medications from 16, she was doing many things for herself, and she was completely off insulin. My Grandmother is diabetic.

For the past 5 years, I can count on one hand how many times I have been allowed to see my Grandmother.

On September 20, 2017, I got to see my Grandmother for the first time without my uncle in the same building. She was in a nursing home. Put there by my uncle after my mother had to care for her while he was out of town for the weekend.

When my mother went to take care of my Grandmother at the beginning of September, she found her with feet the size of grapefruit, toe nails over an inch long (some were 2-3 inches!), one leg was twice the size of the other due to a blood clot, and her sugars were up over 600! My mother took her to the hospital and filed a police report to document the neglect.

Since 9-19-17, she has been in a nursing home. Today, she is doing much better. Her sugars are normal, she has had her feet taken care of by a podiatrist, she is much more aware of what's happening around her, and my mother is able to visit her every day.

What isn't good, is that she is still in harms way. Currently, my uncle holds Power of Attorney. He has lied to my grandmother about placing her in the nursing home for short term therapy. She is currently there for long term care against her wishes.

Adult Protective Services has been notified about my uncle's neglect.

What we need now is to have an attorney on hand in the case that my Grandmother is deemed incompetent. If that happens, to protect her from my uncle, we will have to go to court for guardianship. The nursing home has already completed a competency evaluation we should know the results very soon.
*UPDATE: The doctor has deemed her incapacitated.

We are estimating the legal fees to get started are about $5000.

Any money raised and left over after legal fees will be donated to an reputable elder care charity (to be determined).

If you would like to help in other ways, my Grandmother loves to receive cards in the mail. Please send them to:

Thank you all for your kindness and love!

Here are some photos of my Grandma over the years. I unfortunately do not have any recent ones that aren't neglect photos.

Grandma's birthday is on Christmas, too, so if you're looking for an early birthday gift for her, a donation to help get her safe would be a great gift! Thank you!
