Save Elvis' Dream

No one should have to decide between money and education, right? Elvis Mendez is a determined, hard-working, Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet High School graduate, and most importantly, a friend with a heart of gold.
     His plan was to attend Lipscomb University in the fall of 2017 to pursue a career in computer science to ensure he and his family would not go through the financial hardship he has been going through his entire life any longer.  Elvis and his family came to America from Guatemala when he was just 4 years old.  His parents worked an unthinkable amount to support (at the bare minimum) he and his brother.  So, Elvis spent his time taking care of his little brother since he was only 9 years old, and in addition, managed to do very well in school.  Elvis started school as a DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) student which means he can legally work and further his education in the United States.  This also means that he works very hard, and a lot (about 40+ hours a week every summer since he was 15). Unfortunately, he gets no federal help  to cover his college tuition whatsoever.  Not even the Tennessee Promise  Scholarship which guarantees that every high school graduate, graduated from a TN school, is able to receive their 2-year Associate's degree at a community college for free.  This means he can no longer further his education, not only at the institution he wanted, but every institution since he has to pay out-of-state tuition for even his in-state local colleges in Tennessee. This shattered Elvis' dreams and is forcing him to continue working in construction for countless hours completing backbreaking manual labor in the scorching sun.
