Bobo’s Major CCL Surgery
"About 3 weeks ago, we noticed Bobo our 5 year old teacup chihuahua not using his right back leg stumbling each time he walked, unsure of what had caused this we had taken him to the vet right away. At first the vet thought it was a luxating patella so he thought it would be a good idea for him to start anti inflammatory medication for a week. After a week of being on this medication he continued to stumble, we saw no signs of improvement and we noticed he started to get even worse. He wouldn’t eat, he wasn’t able to run around and play with his toys, he would cry all night as he used to sleep with us and it is heartbreaking to know we couldn’t do anything other than wait for the next visit to the vet. We took him in right away and told the vet we needed to look at this further, so he did x rays. After a $400 vet visit, we learned he had torn his CCL completely. Due to the severity he would need major surgery right away which would cost about $2400.
Without the surgery, Bobo is putting more pressure on other parts of his body to compensate for the injured limb and other injuries are extremely likely.
CCL is The cranial cruciate ligament (CCL), which in people is called the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), is part of the knee or stifle joint in the rear legs of dogs. If left untreated, CCL injuries can cause permanent degenerative changes in the stifle joint and serious arthritis.
Unfortunately, we do not have pet insurance and our finances are limited as we have worked incredibly hard to purchase a new home which was a challenge in itself.
We want the best for our Bobo and don’t want him to suffer anymore. We want him to continue to live happily in our home. If you are an animal lover and can help with any contribution, Bobo would be ever so grateful!"
