Give a Child a Brighter Future

Donation protected
Hi! My name is Shandy, and I am a credentialed elementary school teacher, and have been subbing, tutoring, and volunteering in the public school system for the past 2 years, and have been patiently waiting for a full time teaching position to open up. I have recently committed myself to volunteer at orphanages and schools, through International Volunteer HQ in Ghana and Ujamma Hostel in Tanzania, beginning June 25th. I will be serving as a volunteer in Africa for a total of 50 days, and duties include, but are not limited to: teaching, coordinating activities, coaching sports, organize and cleaning schools and orphanages, providing and giving medicines to the children, transporting orphan children to and from the hospital, cradling, etc.

It has been my lifelong dream to travel to Africa to assist in making a difference in the lives of the many underprivileged children, and know that it's my calling. The everyday challenges that these children face aches my heart. It isn't fair, and that's not how life should be for anyone. I often remind my students in California, when they complain about having to do work, or how much they hate school, that there are thousands of children in Africa, whose wish is just to get a school uniform. Why is this their wish? So that they can go to school to receive an education, so that they can learn, get a better shot at life, and pursue their life dreams. Being poor in Africa is much different than being poor in the U.S. Not only do these children not have homes or parents, but many of them have never had the opportunity to even attend school. Unlike in the U.S., where everyone, including undocumented children, have the right to receive a free education, in countries like Ghana and Tanzania, this is hardly the case. Many children don't even have access to running water or clean drinking water. Thousands of children are forced into slave labor at an early age. Not to mention all of the deadly diseases that have plagued Africa are frightening, and most of these children have them, including Malaria and HIV/AIDS. The list goes on.

Due to my current career situation, now is the best time more than ever, for me to fulfill my lifelong dream, and serve my life's purpose, by helping these children in Ghana and Tanzania. I want to educate. I want to enlighten. I want to build up confidence. I want to mentor. I want share my love with these children, because they deserve it. I want to embrace. I want to donate. I want to make a difference, and give all I can. Most importantly, I want to supply as many children with the necessary tools that they need to succeed, both inside and outside of the classroom.

I cannot do this on my own. I need a team of supporters who maybe aren't able to travel to Africa, but would like to assist financially. This money will not only assist in covering some of the costs for my flight to Africa to serve these children, as well as the country visa and vaccination fees, but most of the money will go directly to children, by providing them with a school uniform, and go to cover their registration and exam fees, so that they can go to school. In addition, the money raised will also cover school supplies, school meals, medicine, clean water, and transporting some of these kids to and from the hospital. Additionally, it will also go towards supplying clothing and anything else that is in great need. I will purchase all necessities in these countries, rather than bring them, so to help their economy, rather than our own. We can work as a team to not only save a child, but to save many children, and help to provide them a promising future!

I intend on documenting my trip, through video, pictures, and journal entries, to keep my team of supporters updated with everything that goes on during my trip. This way you actually get to see just exactly where your money is going.

I believe that this is just the beginning, as I have big dreams to some day help to build more schools and children homes in Africa, as well as get as many children off the streets, and placed into homes and classrooms as I can. I have the heart, determination, and the passion to make a big impact in these childrens' lives, that will help to give them a true chance in life. I know that Ghana and Tanzania are where I'm supposed to be.... it is my calling. Education is the gateway to opportunity, which is what we as a team can give to these children. With your help today, this will eventually happen! Together as a team, we can do it!

With your help, I have already met my first goal of $700 (security deposits and fees), which helped to secure my spots in both the Ghana and Tanzania volunteer programs. My second goal of $4,000, must be met no later than May 1st. This will help to secure my flight, pay for my accommodations, travel insurance, visa, and vaccinations. Finally, the remainder of the money that I'm looking to raise is for the children, which I hope to surpass $2,300, by June 24th. I leave for my trip on June 25th, but will have access to my fundraising account for the duration of my trip, so I can continue to receive your donations while I'm there. The more we raise, the brighter their future becomes.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Please keep the children in Tanzania and Ghana, and I in your prayers.

Donations are needed now! I appreciate any donation and/or support that you are able to give, as YOU WILL make a difference in a child's life.

Go Team! :-)

****Any donations that are made via cash or check, won't be charged the almost 8% fee that is charged via GoFundMe and WePay. I can add it to the overall goal, as an offline donation. Please let me know if you'd prefer to donate this way.
