Help us keep the rescue open!

8/13/2014 UPDATE:  Landlord would not accept our check, we have lost our lease. Please read the following complete information...

Last Thursday (8/07), we received a 5 Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit. The rent due at that point was for last month (July) and the current month (August).  The next day (Friday morning), on the way in to the rescue a check was dropped off at the property managers office for the full amount due of $6,839.76. When arriving at the rescue, an eviction notice was found taped to the door stating that the rescue would be evicted on Monday, 8/11. The property manager was immediately contacted, asking for clarification...in July I had stated that I only had a partial payment for rent, understood that they wanted a full check, had informed them that I was working on it (needing to fundraise for the rest of the money), this was only day 1 of a 5 day notice. I expressed that I was confused as to why we received an eviction notice before the 5 day notice had expired. (Note, No we did not have all of the funds for the amount due, we needed to fundraise like crazy to raise it during the weekend and I was counting on being able to have the money by the time the check hit the bank - and did do that). On Friday, I was told that "the eviction could be stopped".  I was in communication with the property management office throughout the weekend, at no on Friday, Saturday or Sunday was I informed that our check would not be accepted.  I thought everything was good. We had raised enough money to pay July, August and even a part of September and plans were being made to immediately start working on the balance of September and months going forward.  At 10 am on Monday morning, I was informed that the landlord was not going to accept our check and that they were proceeding with the eviction. I was told that I had until 11 am to move the dogs out of the building. I was shocked and really couldn't understand why I was being told this Monday morning, why the check was not being accepted. I called an attorney who told me that, if I had known on Friday & gotten him the paperwork he could have filed for a stay which would give us sufficient time to move the dogs out in a reasonable manner but Monday morning was too late because the judge would not see anything until Tuesday and the eviction was already in progress. He even called and talked to them to try to get more time for the dogs but they would not budge. I put out a 911 call for people to help come and get the dogs out - temp fosters, other rescues, boarding kennels. Anything to get the dogs safe. Thankfully enough people showed up and the constable gave us enough time to get every single dog out of the building to safety. We know where every dog is.

We have lost this facility but the rescue is still operating and responsible for all of its dogs with the exception of 7 which were transferred to other rescues, and the dogs that were adopted to already approved homes. We currently have 5 dogs in boarding that we prepaid for one week. One dog will be leaving on Saturday, the remaining 4 dogs need foster or forever homes but until that occurs we must pay for them to be kept safe, either at the kennel they are at now or another one.  We must continue to pay any vet care needed, plus insurance for the rescue so we are still incurring costs and will continue to do so until all dogs are placed in to forever homes.

I can't think of anything worse than this that could have happened but the fact remains, and it's the most important one - ALL dogs were made safe, NO dogs were sent to the shelter, Animal Control was not even called to come out.

Because we were unsuccessful in retaining the property, which is what the fundraiser was intended for, we are asking that anyone who wished a refund of their donation, please let us know. You can contact us through this page, or by email to [email redacted].

Photos of the 5 Day Notice, the check written for the rent and the eviction notice have been posted on our facebook page. These photos show that the rent due was only for July and August, shows the amount due of $6,839.76 (this fundraiser was for $6,000.00, less than that amount) and a copy of the eviction notice. We thank you for your support and wish that we had a better update to give you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are in danger of losing our lease and having to close the rescue because we are behind on rent and bills. Unfortunately, for the past several months, SNBBR has been unable to effectively raise funds due to our efforts being continually sabotaged by a vindictive ex-volunteer.  This is a sad situation for us, as we've been able to save so many lives since we opened our doors and would hate to see it come to an end because of one person's selfish actions.

Many of you may not know that SNBBR has an actual facility that houses our dogs --the dogs we care for are able to be trained and socialized by us, they are given enrichment toys & games to keep their minds and bodies busy, they each enjoy ample time in our outdoor play areas. They receive lots of love & attention at our facility that they would otherwise be missing if they were boarded elsewhere.

To keep the facility running, we pay rent, electricity, trash, water & insurance bills monthly...and these bills are paid mostly out of our own pockets. Then there is the dogs' veterinary care, some of which ends up being very costly due to the medical issues dogs have when we take them in.

For over a year we have been able to keep the rescue facility running while we rescue and rehome at risk bully breed dogs. We want to keep the rescue running, we want to continue saving dogs. But if we fail to raise this money by Monday, we will be forced to close the rescue. This not only means that more burden will be placed on other rescues, but it also means fewer dogs will make it out of the shelter alive. Please help us continue saving the pit bulls of Las Vegas!

Thank you all for helping us reach our goal! Our paypal email is [email redacted]. You can also donate by credit card directly on our website at www.snbbr.org.
