Werris Creek is a small railway town of approximately 1700 people, and is situated in the Liverpool Plains Shire Area, it is nestled between Quirindi to the South and Tamworth to the North. We have 54 playing members of mature age, 20 of whom are women the eldest player being 92 years of age, and 34 men who
play golf regularly in Summer and Winter. The Club was formed in 1892 and has a very good reputation with many good players going further in their chosen sport.
After battling through drought for several years and keeping the club going during that time the club was holding its own. However on the 25th January the course was severely damaged by floodwaters washing away three bridges and damaging the approaches to two others plus debris strewn over the course; it was devastating for club members to see the course in this condition. The bridges are an integral part of the course as we cannot gain access to six holes of the course when there is water flowing in the creek.
Covid -19 then raised its ugly head with the clubhouse being closed and four permanent part-time workers being without work until the club was allowed to open under Covid-19 restrictions, voluntary works was also disallowed at this time.
We are trying to raise money to repair the approaches to the two remaining
bridges, salvage as much as we can from the three other bridges and to clear the debris away from the fairways, so that the Course would be accessible at all times, we would greatly appreciate any donations.
