Walter is a gardener in Uganda. He’s 32 years old. Walter is a husband of 20 years, and a father to three daughters and two sons.
Two years ago, a viral infection damaged Walter’s heart. His heart is enlarged, and struggles to pump blood to the rest of his body. Walter is weak and short of breath. His legs are swollen. He is in constant pain.
Without medication, Walter would not have survived. Indeed, Walter was expected to die.
But, miraculously, Walter responded to medication. Over the last two years, his heart has gotten better. Slowly, he is on his way to recovery.
But he needs to continue his medicines.
Because of his condition, he is unable to work, and he has no source of income. We have paid for his medical care, but have run out of funds. We need help helping Walter recover and keeping him alive.
We’re doing this not just for Walter, but for his family, too. Without their father, Walter’s children have no chance of finishing school, and no chance of finding even modest work.
Walter's doctor estimates that Walter needs another two to three years of treatment. The cost of the medication is $250 a month. We are raising $10,000 to help Walter recover.
