<div>The Ukrainian Cultural Center at the St. Andrew’s Memorial Complex in Bound Brook, New Jersey, is facing the gravest threat in its history. After months of public hearings, community opposition, legal objections, and more than 3,500 petition signatures, the Zoning Board of Adjustment of Franklin Township voted on June 18, 2026, to approve applications that open the way for the subdivision and potential sale of part of this sacred Ukrainian-American property for commercial redevelopment.

<div>The proposed plan would allow the destruction of the Ukrainian Cultural Center and the construction of a commercial warehouse near one of the most important Ukrainian memorial and cemetery sites in the United States.

<div>This is not just a land-use dispute. It is a fight over memory, dignity, and the future of Ukrainian heritage in America.

<div>For generations, Ukrainian families, parishioners, veterans, refugees, community leaders, and ordinary donors gave what they could to build and sustain this place. The Cultural Center was created to serve the Ukrainian school, community organizations, cultural events, conferences, archives, gatherings, and future generations of Ukrainian Americans.

<div>A plaque on the building states that the Center was “erected as a memorial to the churches, libraries and archives destroyed in Ukraine” and that it would preserve “the treasures of Christianity of the Ukrainian people.”

<div>The St. Andrew’s Memorial Complex is also home to a cemetery where thousands of Ukrainians are buried, including clergy, veterans, community leaders, cultural figures, and people whose lives were shaped by war, exile, Soviet occupation, and the long struggle for Ukrainian freedom.

<div>For many families, Bound Brook is not simply a property. It is a place of prayer, memory, burial, education, and identity.

<div>The zoning process is now over. The court fight is beginning.
