Save Twin Knolls

Donation protected
At 8436 East Apache Trail , in the middle of a neighborhood, is a row of hills known as Twin Knolls. The eastern knoll is planned to be completely leveled by a gravel mine. The mine has almost all the approvals needed to operate, and it is scheduled to begin this year. It will take 8 to 12 years to slowly grind the hill down to nothing. Many of our homes are only feet away from the property, and we are being forced to deal with the negative consequences of the mine with little recourse. This is not even considering the destruction itself of a beautiful and notable landmark in our neighborhood.

We believe that our rights have been violated according to the statutory laws of Arizona. There are parties that need to be held accountable by the courts for failing to adequately involve our community in the plans for mining and development of the property on the eastern knoll. Since the day we discovered these plans being formulated behind our backs, the entire project has suffered from marked failure to follow proper procedures.

However, filing a lawsuit is not cheap. It nearly always requires the guidance of legal counsel to do correctly. This is likely not a routine matter for civil court, so we anticipate little pro bono guidance. We are not a large multi-million dollar corporation; we are a community of people of modest means. Some of us have looked upon the knolls for decades, and many others have recently moved here to enjoy the same timeless treasures. We could never have imagined needing to furnish thousands of dollars for a lawsuit.

The behaviors of the powers that be are predatory, contemptuous, and not in good faith. They are counting on each of us to feel just a bit wronged and to lay down in silence as they have their way with the land. Not one of us has the means to fund the proceedings alone. Time is of the essence, as even our preliminary filings are difficult to complete without adequate help from experienced professionals. With every passing day, the plans to demolish the landscape and irreparably harm the nature on the knoll come closer. That is why we need your help as soon as possible.

Your generous support would mean the world to us. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you and find great comfort that we are not facing this challenge alone. In this day and age, we know you are likely experiencing major challenges of your own, and that makes your kind gestures even more meaningful. The only thing we can deliver in response is a promise to be the best possible stewards of the land in our community.

What will my donation be used for?
-  Your donation will cover any costs associated with the process of filing lawsuits to protect the knolls, including but not limited to legal counsel and court fees. We may also need to fund a bond that the courts could require as a contingency.
-  In the event we raise more funds than are required, we will seek counsel on the best way to use the funds to improve our community. We will update our GoFundMe page with details if we are fortunate enough for this to be the case.
