Save Triple Crown Diner

Triple Crown Diner has been a staple of Bellerose, Queens since 2000. Diners, in general, are something that all New Yorkers love. They are the perfect place to meet up with friends and family, where you know you are guaranteed to have a good time. You can get breakfast or a twin lobster tail dinner 24/7 at a reasonable price. The staff becomes your family and everyone knows you by name. Triple Crown is on the Queens side of Jericho Turnpike bordering Nassau County. It is accessible from almost anywhere. No matter who you speak to, they all seem to know exactly where it is and have a story or two about the old “Bellerose Diner”.

However, times are changing, and people don’t flock to diners the way that they used to. Every time you turn around, you hear of another diner closure. Triple Crown Diner has been fortunate enough to make it this far. But just like so many other businesses, they are on the verge of closing, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When they were mandated to shut down the first time in March, it was scary for everyone.

The staff and owners alike, had no idea what would come of this. After a few months of working tirelessly, Triple Crown Diner was once again open for business, sporting a huge outdoor tent, offering their patrons the safest dining experience. As the weather got colder, it got harder to keep the tent open, especially with the extra costs of outdoor dining. Now, we are almost one year into this pandemic and not only is the diner still only allowed 25% capacity for indoor dining, but the Mayor has once again called for all indoor dining to close. There is a very real chance that Triple Crown will not be able to survive another shutdown. It is heartbreaking to think that this diner, home to so many, might not be there any longer. I’m asking you to open your hearts to this small business and donate whatever you can to help keep it alive. A percentage of your donations will go to the family of Juan Sanchez, who had been a loyal employee since the diner first opened. Juan unfortunately lost his life to COVID back in April, leaving his wife and two children behind. All of the late-night customers knew and loved Juan and were shattered to hear that he is no longer with us.

As a former employee, I must say that Triple Crown is not just a diner or a place to eat. Triple Crown is a place where people unite, a place where "EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME". It's a place where you are treated like family. A place to wake up and have breakfast, order your lunch special or fine dine with a glass of wine. I didn't just walk away with a paycheck, but I gained a family. Let's do what we can to keep this staple in the community. www.triplecrowndinertogo.com
