<div>Meet Tonka. This little guy was found a few days ago, tied to a chain-link fence behind a dumpster where I work. If a co-worker hadn't walked back there, he wouldn't have survived. We couldn't see him or hear him, and he was left with no food, no shelter, and no water in this sweltering heat. There was also another dog we found tied to the other end of the same area the same day, but it managed to free itself and ran away. I found a home for him, and he was taken for shots and a heartworm test. The heartworm test came back positive. <strong>Treatments for this can run up to $3,000.00 or more; one vet quoted $2,500.00, but they need to see him first.</strong>

<div>UPDATE: Tonka had his first vet visit. They gave him shots, including a rabies vaccine. He had very dirty ears and that's why he didn't seem to hear very well.  That was dealt with and he has been given antibiotics.  They took another heartworm test, and the family was given a cost for the treatment.  It could take 6 months to a year for full recovery at a cost of $3500 just for this treatment.
