We are reaching out to you because we have finally started a GoFundMe to ask for any contribution we can get for the school that we attended, Tikur Wuha General Primary School, which is located in Jiga town (West Gojjam, Ethiopia). Once a renowned school and till today the main school for the local community is in desperate need for help. The school has not seen a reasonable maintenance upgrade for the last almost 70 years, the class rooms are very old and over crowded, the library appears dungeon and there is no laboratory at all. We thought we should share with you a bit of the full story. ዝርዝሩን በአማርኛም ከታች አካተናል። Tikur Wuha General Primary School is one of the oldest and the main school in the area and since its opening in 1951 G.C (1944 E.C), it has produced many thousands of students which turned out to be medical doctors, engineers, economists, business persons and experts in various fields. Currently, more than 2246 students are enrolled including 205 Kindergarten children. However, as mentioned previously, the school is in a very poor condition after long years of service. To revive the school, a voluntary committee consisting of teachers and members of the local community has been set up to raise funds for construction of new rooms. For now, but only due to financial limitations, construction of a single storey building dedicated for laboratory, library and ICT rooms is planned. Despite people are struggling with skyrocketing living expenses, we witness that they are putting the utmost effort to revive the school. Teachers and local community leaders, who took the initiative to spearhead the effort, are actively engaged with the meagre resources at their disposal. They are also aspiring to build new class rooms if funding is available. In support of this initiative, we, alumni of the school living in USA, Canada, Europe and other parts of the world held teleconferences recently to discuss how we can contribute to this initiative both financially and in our fields of expertise. We sincerely share the aspirations of the community and we are committed to contributing whatever we can to making the school an appropriate place for education. Of course, it is not about being alumni of the school or not. It is rather about enabling thousands of children to learn in appropriate class rooms, to go to library for reference books, to test and appreciate chemistry/physics theories in a lab, and to gain some ICT skills and to supplement their study by reading digital books.  In a nutshell, it is about investing in their future. As it is well-explained in the campaign page, this fund raising is intended for supporting a maintenance and expansion project of Tikur Wuha General Primary School, a primary school in a small town in Amhara region of Ethiopia.  This campaign is coordinated by more than 40 alumni of the aforementioned school who are living in USA, Canada and Europe among which Mr. Asmamaw Adamu and Mr. Tesfaye  Ayele are active members. As a division of tasks among the coordinators of this campaign, Mr. Asmamaw Adamu  opened the GoFundMe and Mr. Tesfaye Ayele, who was organizing different meetings to facilitate the campaign and who was one of the first contributors, is responsible for withdrawing the raised money and sending it to the school administration in Ethiopia.
