Save The Rose City Book Pub

Hi! I'm reaching out to community-oriented folks who would like to see a neighborhood gem survive! The Rose City Book Pub was founded by Elise Schumock in 2018. I've known Elise since 6th grade at Beaumont Middle School in NE Portland.

Your support will help Elise and The Rose City Book Pub cover expenses, such as rent, utilities, and payroll.

If you know Elise (and even if you don't), her goals with the Book Pub are as authentic as she is. With a commitment to support other, local small businesses and to be a neighborhood hub, Elise and the Rose City Book Pub provide a welcome refuge from the blatant commercialism and fast paced lifestyles we are so accustomed to. The Book Pub hopes to return to being a venue for literary readings and other events. The Book Pub is a truly unique space in Portland and is a vital part of the community.

The Book Pub spent time during the pandemic offering support to the community in the absence of services normally provided by local non-profits, as well as government agencies. Welcoming people from all walks of life to use computers, printers, and the telephone, the Book Pub has been a staple for those in need. It also serves as a drop-off location for donations to Books to Prisoners, Hygiene 4 All, and The Immigrant Mutual Aid Coalition. Elise's heart is rooted in community, and even when she was going through very hard times this year she chose to use her space and her platform to help others.

The Book Pub recently applied for SBA Restaurant Relief funds and was awarded $105,000. Unfortunately, these funds were rescinded due to court rulings against the SBA alleging discrimination by prioritizing women, veterans, and people of color. I'm reaching out on behalf of Elise and The Rose City Book Pub and asking you to help keep this treasure running. You'll be glad you did.

If you're not able to support the Book Pub financially, please use your voice to support this restaurant and 170,000 others like it by writing to your Member of Congress to ask them to vote for increased funding for Restaurant Revitalization. The unmet need of people who qualify for these grants is at least $43 billion.
