Save the Native Irish Black Bee
Ten years ago, people thought that the Native Irish Black Bee was extinct
They are not extinct but need our help
This swarm season, I have 24 bait boxes in rotation
Results so far are suggesting that the Native Irish Black Bees are in need of housing, with at least 2 colonies coming to view each bait box across 8 counties
9/10 colonies so far are Native Irish Black Bees with Buckfast being the next most common strain. No visual signs of disease on any colony although thorough testing through Bee Diagnostics will be needed to confirm this
The aim of this campaign is to provide bee-centred housing and to spread the love of beekeeping without chemicals. No wings clipped or painted queens. Honey, not sugar for bees.
Four Aims -
Housing&Protection for the Native Irish Black Bee - Apis Mellifera Mellifera
Education and Accessible Beekeeping for new Beekeepers
Can you help us with this work?
