The Lumina Academy of Dance has been part of the Pasadena community since 2007. But like so many businesses, they are struggling to survive through the COVID-19 pandemic. Co-owners Fatima Mendoza and Arlene Santos have put everything they have into this business, which is their heart and joy. But at this point their savings have been depleted and they are unable to make the next month's rent.
The Friends of Lumina are reaching out to you to help - no amount is too small!!
Lumina is a place for everyone to gather. Children take classes in World Dance and Flamenco. Adults and children alike learn the art of Middle Eastern Belly Dance, and even become part of Lumina's competitive Belly Dance team "Fatima & The Butterflies". If Salsa is more your speed, you can join in for Beginner and Intermediate levels as well as monthly Friday night dance parties. Lumina Academy's salsa performance team and Queer Latin Dance LA, both led by Arlene the Salsa Queen, can be seen lighting up the stages all around town. Lumina also hosts the Patille Dance Studio which teaches traditional Armenian Dance and performs at many local events.
However, Lumina isn't just a place to learn to dance. It's truly a family and the friendships formed here last a lifetime. Please help the Friends of Lumina get our precious studio through these difficult times, so that we may be together once again sharing in the joy of dance. And hopefully you will be there on the dance floor with us!
