I am reaching out today with a heavy heart, on behalf of my dear friend’s Godson, Matthew (or Matviii as he is affectionately called). On a sunny day in Sumy, Ukraine, tragedy struck.

Matthew, a sweet and energetic little boy, was eagerly running to meet his mother and hand her his toys when he was suddenly hit by a car. In an instant, this joyful child’s life was shattered. He sustained critical, life-threatening injuries and was immediately transferred from Sumy’s local clinic to the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv. Matvii is currently in a coma, fighting for his life.

His mother, a single parent, is facing the unimaginable—watching her child battle for survival while also struggling to gather the funds necessary for his urgent medical treatment. In these difficult times, both financially and emotionally, we are turning to you—the compassionate hearts in the American and Ukrainian communities—for help.

The second photo here was taken just a day before the accident, showing Matvii happily spending time with his Godparents. Life can change in a split second, and the pain of watching a loved one suffer in this way is almost too much to bear.
