So here are the key points of our story:

* The Flame Centre, run by mainly by volunteers helped over 14,500 people take control of their health and well being

We received a Bill from the Bailiffs demanding payment for Coventry City Council Business rates for £5900 ( before the council informed us) please note - we also need to raise the fees Go Fund Me is charging us for running this campaign

*  We will LOSE THE CENTRE if we don't raise the £5900 (plus fees for campaign) and we can not do this without your support.

The Flame Center is a grassroots organisations that’s supports all people, but we work with a lot of vulnerable and unwell people, who have exhausted the mainstream healthcare system.

We provide individuals suffering from all sorts of  conditions depression to chronic illnesses, to bereavement, the skills to take control of their own health using holistic methods.

For example the centre has been providing Free mindfulness training at the Coventry Central Library for the past 3 years.

We are run by a community of volunteers and Directors (who volunteer 90% of their time).

We are a not for profit, in fact last year we made a small loss.
We charge for the workshop and courses  to help cover the cost of the centre, to support those who cannot pay and where we can to pay the facilitators, however most of the facilitators volunteer part if not all their time.

The Flame Center has supported over 14,500 people to improve their mental health and wellbeing in the last 7 years.

Despite the points above:

For a year and half we have been trying to state our case for a discretional Business rates as a not for profit community center and awaited advice from the council as to our position.

We found out that Coventry City Counci had not awarded the discretional rate after we received an letter issued the Bailiffs to take £5900 worth of goods from the centre.

At no point were we contacted to say we had not been successful and we owed £5900, to give us a chance to prepare a payment plan.

We are fighting the bill as best as we can and we are working with a local councilor. The City Council is now insisting that they will not retrieve it from the Baliff and we will have to pay the full amount even if we come to an agreement on a payment plan. (reminder we made no profit last year, see a photo of account statement below)

THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE ALONE, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

The building we use is so old and unkept by the council, (there isn’t even central heating), that by law since 2017 the City can no longer charge business rates for the property.

BUT they are determined to squeeze the very last drop out of centre and our community.

This why we ask for your help in raising the amount £5900, (plus fees for campaign) so we can save our centre and continue to support some of the most vulnerable people.

If by some miracle we are successful in fighting the bill, then we would use the money to sustain, develop and future proof the centre for future.

Thank you for your time in reading our campaign, we know their are many worthy causes. If you are able to help your support would impact the lives of many people and help secure this valuable community centre.

From the volunteers and directors of the centre, may you be peaceful ,  may you be safe, may you be free, may you be happy.

Thank you.
