The Quogue Save the Dunes and Beaches Foundation (the “SBDF”), a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, needs to raise funds to support the ongoing awareness campaign to the Community and the outreach efforts to the Village leadership on the importance of joining the 100% federally funded FIMP beach nourishment project (“Fire Island to Montauk Point”).
Our goal is to raise $25,000, which supports the continued service of an independent coastal geologist consultant and an awareness campaign. The awareness campaign includes updates to the SBDF’s website and social media on the progress of all necessary contracts which must be executed by the various arms of government, including the Army Corp of Engineers, New York State, Suffolk County, the Town of Southampton and the Village of Quogue in order to bring beach nourishment and FIMP to Quogue.
Between 1976 and 2018, the Quogue Public Beach shoreline eroded from approximately 1000 ft. to 400 ft. (as measured from the top of the Public Beach Facility to the high water mark) and also lost many of the beautiful dunes that offered barrier island protection to the mainland.
Over the past 40 years, Quogue has not undertaken or joined any towns or villages along the entire Long Island Atlantic Coastline in a long term sustainable plan for beach nourishment. Today, in very short order, Quogue is in the perilous situation of losing its most valuable asset -the beach- unless we join our neighbors and participate in FIMP now.
Your donation will facilitate education for Quogue neighbors and ongoing support to our elected officials to undertake Quogue's participation in FIMP.
