Save the Caribbean's Hurricane Pets

The desperate pets of the Caribbean need your help.
Hurricane Irma, then Maria, hit the islands hard. Many lifelong residents moved out of the Caribbean for good, fearing these would not be the last weather events -- often leaving their pets behind.
Once vibrant communities, the islands were reduced to evacuated disaster zones full of confused, abandoned pets. Animals that were cared for are now strays, with no idea how to BE strays, and how to survive in the ruins of the islands. Any food and clean drinking water, difficult to come by, is reserved for the human residents. The shelters are now full of pets with little food while the animals on the streets have nothing, Food is needed, feeding stations need to be started, pets need to be rounded up and found new homes, or shipped to fosters.
Funds are needed as soon as possible to keep the animals alive until homes and new caretakers can be found.
I've paid for my own flight in and I'm bringing 150 pounds of dry food, but that's nothing. Long-term help is needed. A charter flight was brought in to remove 280 dogs and cats from the 3 Virgin Islands to the mainland. Hopefully another charter can be done to carry in tons of pet food to avoid costly shipping fees and assure all donations go directly to the animals.
On behalf of myself and the abandoned pets of the islands, thank you for any donation you make, big or small, you can really help save a life. Funds were used to buy and ship 150 lbs of pet food with my check -in luggage. $ 190.00 in food, $25 to ship the first piece, $35 to ship the second piece. I paid for my own airticket myself. Once in St Thomas we bought hundreds of pounds of cat food at the newely reopened kmart in two differnt occasions, $480.00 and $412.00 plus bowls and turkey roaster pans to put the food in. $61.00 I had a free room in St Thomas, so no expenses there, nor in a car, as i drove around with a local animal rescuer. Gas was 42.00, food $22(i mostly ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches the whole trip.) I still have donations left over and wil be sending rge money via paypal to the car rescuer when she runs out of food again. She has 40 feeding stations feeding over 200 cats daily.
