Save the BCC Pool

I am Linda Plott Crabtree, President of the Bassett Community Center Board of Trustees. The Community Center is a 501c3 Non profit Corporation located in Bassett, Virginia. The building was opened in 1960 and is over 61 years old. Much of the corporate funding needed for daily operations was lost due to NAFTA and the subsequent closing of many our local industries in the 1990s.

This lack of funds forced the closing of the building in September of 2019. We are attempting to raise enough money to renovate the pool and adjacent restrooms, improve handicapped access to the pool and shower areas, and return the snack bar to service. The goal for 2022 is to open the pool in May.

Ultimately, we hope to repair and revitalize the building where there is currently no heat or water. The boiler is broken and cannot be repaired so we must find new sources for heat and air conditioning.

This building and the services it can offer are a definite need in our community, especially for our children who need after school activities, exercise, and social opportunities.
