Save the Barber Home and Animals

Claude and Kathleen (Gelsick) Barber have lived in and owned their home in Kane, PA for 15 years, a home that has been in Kathleen’s family for decades. During that time, they have been loving owners to many adopted animals. They don’t have human children, but they consider their pets as children.

Over a year ago, they were made aware of complaints from neighbors of pet odors emanating from their house. The Kane Borough placed many articles in the newspaper referring to the Barbers as a nuisance. More recent articles threaten eviction from, and demolition of, their home unless they get rid of all of their animals. The Barbers have taken action to professionally clean their home and hired an attorney to help defend their rights to both retain their home and to have pets, but the attorney died unexpectedly leaving Claude and Kathleen in a dire position.

Claude and Kathleen have secured a new attorney who has written to the borough council stating that it is their hope that they and the borough can work out a cooperative resolution to this issue. This new attorney lives 2 hours from Kane and is going to be costly to the Barbers. Friends and family are raising money to help the Barbers pay their attorney to help them keep their home and, most importantly, their beloved animals.
