Save the Athens Theatre

Tax deductible
DeLand’s landmark theater, the historic Athens needs life support—support from her community, from her family, from you. The marquee is dark. The stage and seats are empty.

You might ask, “How can a closed theater need money?”

Like many in our community, the Athens is out of work. Her income has been cut to zero. Yet her expenses continue to mount: Patrons want their money back for performances that did not happen when she was forced to close, $38,000 worth of tickets, and no money coming in. Will she lose the ones who hold her together day to day? Will her eight full-time caregivers find somewhere else to work? What about the eighteen whose part-time work helps keep her going?

Every year she has provided summer camp scholarships to over forty underprivileged students, and now we wonder if her doors will reopen for summer camp at all.

Will you help keep the Athens from crumbling back into neglected disrepair?
