FAQ's: Tax receipts? Yes, you will receive a tax receipt via email as we're a registered not-for profit.
In April, 2019, the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society purchased the historic Lunenburg Opera House in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada. This campaign’s mission is to keep the Opera House in the hands of the community via our not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization to ensure it will be enjoyed for generations to come!
The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society celebrates, promotes, and preserves our cultural heritage. When we heard this integral part of our cultural landscape was for sale – and therefore in jeopardy – we felt compelled to do what we could to save it. “Thanks to the support of the Fordi Family Foundation and their gift of $433,800, we are more than half-way to saving the Opera House”, says Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society President, Harold Pearse.
While the grant from the Fordi Family Foundation provided about 60% of the purchase price, the remaining balance of $300,000 plus interest presents a significant liability and is a real threat to the Folk Harbour Society. With your help, we'll exceed this minimum target, and apply any excess funds toward making the Opera House an even better community space. Renovation priorities in our 5-year business plan include adding washrooms, expanding our off-stage area (to facilitate theatre productions), and restoring the 3rd floor.
The Society and the Fordi Foundation have saved the LOH from ending up in the hands of commercial owners – at least in the short term. To preserve it for generations to come, we must cover the full purchase cost.
Please share our video message, contribute any amount you can, so that your friends can also be part of this fantastic opportunity. Together we will enrich the arts community of Lunenburg County and the Province of Nova Scotia.
Skip your lottery tickets this month and invest in a sure win for you and this community! Tax deductible receipts are provided in Canada.
