Save Steel's Books

Donation protected

Steel's Used Books has been in the Kansas City area for thirty years and in its current NKC location for almost twenty, but a new landlord has decided to kick them out with only forty five days notice. On top of this, they've started construction immediately, making it difficult to do business and causing damage to some of the books and furniture. This, on top of a broken AC that they refuse to fix, has put the shop in a precarious position that needs your help.

Our immediate goal with the fundraising money is to rent a small space so that the store can continue to operate, buy stock, and manage inventory while looking for a new place that can be bought outright.

In the long run, we want to find a space that is more suited to our needs and in our price range. In addition to having the space for books, we also want to have the following:

Stage - We want to have a space for live music, poetry, and book readings

Art gallery - A place to display work by local artists and have viewings

A working air conditioner - This should go without saying, but our current landlords apparently think AC is optional

In the interest of transparency, all the financials using money raised here will be posted publicly.

Local author Max N Jolley is helping with this fundraiser, and as an added thank you to our donors, has agreed to give everyone who donates a download link for a free copy of his fiction series - Three books which retail for $3.99 each and and two short stories which aren't even available to purchase, about 350,000 words in total.
