Save Skips' Leg

Donation protected

Who is Skips?
Skips is a sweet, playful dog who I found limping around the Central Florida Faigrounds on three legs. His front left leg is broken and requires surgery to fix.

How Will Surgery Save His Leg?
In surgery, a physician will reconnect points A and B of Skips' broken bone and secure them in place with a metal plate. The surgeon will also restretch the muscles and tendons that have contracted to fit around the break.

Why the Rush?
Because the break is approximately three weeks old, Skips' leg has already begun healing improperly. Further delaying surgery will make the break harder to repair and reduces the chances that the surgeon can restrech the contracted muscles and tendons. Affiliated Veterinary Specialists is prepared to perform surgery as early as Monday, October 23, but all $4,000 needs to be raised before then.

Where are His Owners?
Skips doesn't have a microchip, which makes it difficult to find his owners. I have posted his photo and information in multiple lost and found animal groups on Facebook, created a found dog alert on PawBoost, and contacted several people on Craigslist who have lost dogs that look like Skips. Unfortunately, none of these efforts have brought me closer to finding his owner.

Why Not Take Him to a Shelter or Rescue Group?
A friend and I have contacted more than 10 local rescue groups, but for various reasons, none of them are willing to take Skips in or help with his medical costs, even if we provide fostering. The Orange County Animal Shelter euthanizes all dogs that are not adopted within two weeks. Since Skips is not adoptable with a broken leg, they would probably euthanize him right away. I do not want that to happen because he is still young and healthy in every other way.
