SAVE SE20 CYCLES

Donation protected
SE20 Cycles, a repair and cycle shop on Penge High Street in South-East London, opened in September 2008. It is more than just a cycle shop and lovely garden cafe; It is the heart and soul of the cycling community locally and the unofficial base for Penge Cycle Club, one of the biggest cycle clubs in the country (over 600 members).

It is owned and run by Winnie Farquharson, a passionate supporter of equality and diversity who has played a significant part in increasing local participation in cycling in recent years. He was put forward for an award by local councillors in recognition for charity work to help young people in the community. A truly good person through and through, Winnie has dedicated himself to serving local families and club members, working long hours to keep his business going through tough times. In 2019 he transformed the garden space at the back of the propery into a beautiful space for cyclists and non-cyclists to gather and opened his cafe, "Rule 19". When Covid-19 hit, he made the tough decision to close the repair shop to walk-in customers to prioritise local emergency and key workers. He has served on a committee of local businesses to promote independent retail in Penge. The group now works with a specialist local business adviser on initiatives to encourage more people to shop in the area.

Everyone knows that many businesses are struggling with the huge increases in fuel bills. Due to a change in tariff, SE20 Cycles is faced with a bill of over £11,000 before the winter has even started. This is unaffordable for a small business, and if the money cannot be found, the shop is facing closure.

Friends and supporters at Penge Cycle Club have come together to raise funds required to pay this enormous fuel bill and to support the shop through the next few difficult winter months. The recent pandemic has taught us all the importance of friendship and community - we cannot allow this otherwise successful business to be lost due to this short-term crisis. Please consider donating whatever you can afford, small or large, and
together we can save our wonderful local cycling hub!
