I have been supporting a fabulous charity which needs help with funding the running costs of its club to allow them to continue the vital work they do in our community.
Since 1992 SCCYP has been providing free holiday and afterschool activities for children aged 6 years and over allowing safe play accessible to all. They also engage with other community groups to improve services for all age groups. Sccyp has become more than an afterschool club it is more of a family. The running costs include the salaries of two experienced staff who have managed the club for over 20 years. During the pandemic SCCYP staff and volunteers have worked with local community to provide not only food parcels to the vulnerable and shielding but play packs for local children. However the affects of COVID-19 have hit the funding of this and many charities. SCCYP have not been able to secure funding as many businesses and charity funding streams have been hit hard. This means that there is a real possibility that the club will run out of funding in the next few months and will have to close its doors. This would be heartbreaking for the local children. SCCYP have over the years not only provided fun days out and activities but they have promoted diversity, raised awareness in crime prevention and empowered many children to go on and become volunteers at the club. Some of these young people have gainedjobs in teaching, childcare and social care. Losing this club would be worse than splitting up a family. The community it is part of is already subject to many disadvantafes but it is a growing community with many new housing developments so a club like this has never been more necessary.
