Sandbox Fitness opened its doors in the heart of Sherman Oaks in 2014 and quickly established itself as a unique oasis in a sea of boutique gyms.  With its sand, surfboards, and heart, it became a favorite place to work up a sweat, gain physical and mental strength, and form life-long bonds.

David and Minna created Sandbox Fitness with all of this in mind and lovingly grew Sandbox into an ocean of success.  In 2019, they turned their first child over to a new couple whom they trusted to carry on the tradition of family.

That new couple is David Essex and Jessie Simon.  They were dedicated clients of Sandbox Fitness and jumped at the opportunity to carry on Sandbox’s commitment to fitness and community.

David and Jessie wanted to keep everything David and Minna had created, but also do more for their community. They were slated to participate in several local runs and were working on a partnership with Ray’s Hope – Rescue to Rescue.  Ray’s Hope helps veterans with the physical and mental issues that can plague members of our military.  Ray’s Hope helps each veteran find a rescue dog to call their own while making sure they receive all the help they need.  Sandbox Fitness was working on a plan to bring in the veterans and give them a safe place to work out – a place which would accommodate their physical needs while providing a place to be themselves.

Everything was moving in the right direction for our boutique fitness studio. And then Covid 19 came and they complied with the orders to close the door. They wanted to continue providing ways to workout so they created online classes and hand-delivered surfboards to several loyal clients. This way, they kept the Sandbox spirit alive while continuing to pay their trainers, but it is not enough.

They are desperately trying to keep this unique, family-oriented gym open.

They have applied for every federal and local loan, grant, and payroll protection. They have not received a dime from any of these programs.  Even if they could open tomorrow, they would only have four people in each class to maintain social distancing and make our clients and trainers feel safe. They will not be able to survive this situation without your help.

David and Jessie are in dire straits and do not want to close the doors. Sandbox Fitness is a unique studio with that special, personal touch.  It is a one-of-a-kind jewel in sea of workout centers. Sandbox Fitness has touched many lives and they want to keep helping the community.

Will you help them surf the wave of recovery?
