On November 12th 2019 a natural disaster struck the city of Venice raising water levels to 1.87 meters (the second highest level in recorded history since 1966). San Lazzaro degli Armeni (Wiki)
High tides and high winds brought not only water damage but massive devastation to the whole island including the ancient cathedral. The island has been a monastery to the Armenian Mekhitarian Monks since the early 18 century.
Centuries have passed and this holy place houses many ancient relics and ancient manuscripts. The art collection (Ivan Aivazofsky) and frescos (Raphael and Tiepolo) have all been spared.
The perimeter wall protecting the island from the lagoon of Venice was demolished and as if it never was present. 8 monks call this island home, pilgrims from all corners of the world visit with faith and hope for their prayers to be answered.
Help us preserve and restore San Lazzaro degli Armeni and the Cathedral for centuries to come with a donation of ANY amount. All funds go directly to the immediate need of restoration of the Monastery and Cathedral.
