As some of you guys know, we are currently facing eviction... for those that you don't here is what is up.
Rye Lanez Tattooing is a locally owned traditional tattoo studio in Peckham Rye, in the railway arches under the station. We built the studio from the ground up, expanding to the archway with the help of many of our friends and family. We cleared the yard, stripped and laid floors, cleaned and sterilised, and have now created a beautiful home for 14 artists, becoming one of the biggest tattoo studio in South London and one of the most welcoming places to be tattooed in London.
Within the first six months the studio has bloomed; creating a safe space to be tattooed by a family unit of resident artists, we have held multiple successful flash days, welcomed internationally famous tattoo artists from around the world, held tattoo events for David Gray's newest album, been featured in music videos and hosted small local food businesses in our pop up food court outside.
BUT.... In Feb 2019, Network Rail sold off all the railway arches to a company called the Arch Company. In May we had one face to face introduction to a person from the company where they walked round the studio, telling us we would be fine and that we will be staying.
The next day, we were told on the phone that we had four weeks to leave, because we do not fit their 'business model', we are yet to be told exactly what this model is.
As you can imagine we have all been heartbroken, and terrified. We have been dismissed as a business, yet we have always gone above and beyond to pay rent early, and make our clients happy. This short notice leaves little time to relocate 14 artists, let alone find somewhere with space for the food court. We have poured our heart and souls in to creating a space that welcomes hundreds of clients, (many of whom may be left with half finished tattoos if the eviction goes on) and we desperately need your help.
The Archway Company was created by two international super-giant investment companies, and we as a small local business are struggling to have our voices heard. We are currently desperately saving to pay for the fees of a solicitors who specialises in archway evictions, in order to try and negotiate a new tenancy agreement with these new landlords.
We will not be able to fight these guys with money - The Archway Company is part of Telereal Trillium, a British investment company, and Blackstone Property Partners, an super investment company from America. These guys, own hotel chains, computer companies, fashion houses and fund arms dealers - and we are no match for such a huge company on our own. They do not have the time to listen to one small voice but with your help we hope to make enough noise that they are able to hear us.
We appreciate every second of support you have all given us as we built this place but we are now in the position where we need your help to keep it alive.
Any money we raise will be used towards a solicitor who will be helping us fight to stay in the archway.
We need your help to raise awareness and show the Archway Company that we wish to work with them as the new landlord, and that we ask to stay in the archway. We are happy to renegotiate contracts, but need to show the support we have from the local residents, and our customer and client base that we are wanted in that archway and deserve to stay, and to show them that our studio can fit any business model it needs.
Any donation you can make, small or large will be appreciated more than you can imagine, we are desperate to save Rye Lanez Tattooing from eviction and thank you so much help us stay in our archway home!
