The efforts to combat COVID-19 have been hard on everybody, so believe me when I say that I don't take lightly the need to ask for help. I wouldn't be doing this if it didn't seem like the only option available. For the last 11 years, Redcap's Corner has served as the heart of tabletop gaming in Philadelphia. We've run thousands of events, spanning dozens of genres, and spent 100,000 hours in support of Philly's ever-growing gaming community. Thousands and thousands of games later, we're still around, still striving to translate our enthusiasm for games into meaningful connections for those who need us. But we need help, and the incredible staff who has tirelessly worked in service of our mission needs help.
Don't mistake me. We don't want any money that would otherwise have gone to supporting life-saving measures and services, we certainly don't want anybody's last dollar, and we would much rather sell you something that will keep you sane throughout this whole ordeal than ask for your charity. We have a web-store online at www.redcapscorner.com and will happily ship you whatever we have in stock. We have far too much inventory to list it all in such a short period of time, so please email stock inquiries to the contact address listed on this page if you don't see what you're after. We'll do our best to get it online. We also sell gift cards through the website, and still fully intend to run our gaming camps for kids and teens this summer, which I imagine will be of even more value than usual to many frazzled parents by the time they roll around this June.
The truth is that our goal represents two weeks of continuing to pay our staff, and one month of rent. I'm not asking for a penny more than we need to accomplish these two simple goals. To date, we haven't laid off any of our staff, but they haven't been able to work in nearly two weeks, and we want to do everything in our power to do right by them, despite our current near-zero revenue. Unfortunately, what we can do for them right now is precious little. It also doesn't matter how long the business shut-down lasts if we don't have a building to get back into when it's all over. I know it seems like an awful lot of money (and it is) to buy us only a few weeks, but every day right now is crucial to the survival of the business and to our ability to care for employees. We have brought in almost no revenue since our closure on March 16th.
I have to run our next payroll Monday afternoon, and rent is due by Thursday night. I'm trying to keep our full staff on, but I don't want them to feel like they have to wait for us with no pay. And if I can't afford to pay my landlord by Thursday, there's very little chance we'll still be here when the dust settles, anyway. I don't begrudge anyone their inability to help us out, and I realize this is a longshot. If you can buy a game from us during these hard times, it will help immensely. If you can donate $5, 10, 25, or even 50 dollars, it will help even more. If you can't do either, but you can spread this link around, even to one other person, we'll still be eternally grateful.
In the meantime, we've set up a Discord server at discord.gg/4DFpmmd to try to keep everyone up to date, and to keep people connected in the age of social distancing. Look for us to begin unveiling on there whatever we can to help ease the passage of time. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
