Help us save Prity’s eye sight!
Prity Kumar a loving mother and wife to an incredibly strong and hopeful family. I don’t think there is a more fitting name for this beautiful woman who’s sight is rapidly deteriorating.
A very fortunate group of us have had the opportunity to work in Fiji. An experience that one may think would be shaped by the luscious landscapes, blue water, and tropical paradise. Those were all great but what really has changed and continues to change our life each day was the beautiful people we met, specifically those we worked with.
Among that group was one of the very first people I met on arrival in Fiji - Sanjit. Sanjit is Prity’s hardworking, humble, and hopeful husband. This family welcomed us into their home, giving us a family away from our own. Cooking lessons, celebrations, any excuse they could find to help us. The smile that Sanjit always wears is iconic. What one wouldn’t know is that behind that big cheerful smile is a world full of pain.
Sanjit’s wife, Prity, was diagnosed with diabetes 12 years ago. All was okay until a few years ago when a hurricane hit Fiji causing flooding and a loss of electricity for 4 months. This is where it all began. Prity’s insulin medicine was now no longer able to be refrigerated properly and it began to cause problems with her health, specifically her sight.
For the past 2 years her eyesight has gotten worse and worse to where she can no longer cook, clean, take care of their 6 year old son, Anjit, or even walk outside alone. This leaves her beautiful husband Sanjit to balance both full time work and all other duties at home.
The good news is SHE CAN BE CURED and have her eyesight COMPLETELY RESTORED! However, Fiji does not have the proper resources or doctors for the procedure. Prity has an appointment to have a surgery in India that will clear up her eyesight and allow her, Sanjit, and their son, Anjit, to return to their normal life.
The goal is to raise $20,000 USD in order to send Prity to India for this procedure. Help from the Fijian government is pending, but even with help, money will still need to be raised.
