On the night before Christmas, Chicago Animal Control had plans to euthanize this very sweet senior kitty named Pretty Girl. Without knowing much of her history or medical background, we quickly rescued her just minutes before her life would’ve been taken.
Upon initial inspection, I was shocked at how critical her condition was. She suffered from a severe case of calici virus, malnutrition, dehydration & inappetence. She is so skinny & so sick that I worried for her.
As soon as the vet opened the day after Christmas I brought her in for blood work. I assumed she maybe had hyperthyroidism, as seniors often do, or something else attributing to her symptoms. When the results came back this morning we were shocked, to say the least. Pretty Girl has FIP.
FIP is a very deadly virus that is most commonly seen in cats under the age of 1yr. We were very taken back by this diagnosis & were in no way prepared to deal with something of this magnitude.
But I made a promise to Pretty Girl that there’s no giving up. We will see this through & we will get her the treatment that she requires to make a full recovery.
What makes me sad is that Pretty Girl did have a family at one point in time. She has (an unregistered) microchip which tells me she had a home, probably for many years. Somewhere along the line, maybe her owners moved & kicked her to the streets or something occurred that completely displaced this 12+ year old girl.
Pretty Girl doesn’t have a family anymore, but what she does have now is a community. And we’re going to show her that we will rally around her & help her in anyway we can.
The full cost for 84 days of treatment is about $1,500. Please help us raise the funds needed to cure Pretty Girl of FIP so that she can live the rest of her days happy & healthy
