Help Save Pearl's Eyesight!

Donation protected
*UPDATE 6/15/20*
Pearl was scheduled for surgery today, June 15th.  Jane dropped Pearl off at 8:30 and received a call at 10:00.  She did not have surgery.  The medication prescribed on Saturday helped reposition the lens and with some additional manipulation by the specialist, it is now resting in the back of her right eye.  In addition, they found that the lens in Pearl's left eye has also detached and is resting in the back of the eye.  Pearl is not in pain as long as both lenses are resting behind the eyes.  If  either lens moves to the front again, it will be extremely painful.  The lens can move at any time, requiring emergency surgery however the longer the lens stays in place, the less likely it will move therefor requiring surgery.

At this point, donations for Pearl's medical care will be going to meet her ongoing medical needs including medication and monitoring by a specialist.  Should she need emergency surgery, we are hoping that there will be enough funds available to cover the expense.   For the next 4-6 months, Pearl will have weekly-biweekly  visits with the specialist.  It is estimated that her visits will total $210 monthly.  After 6 months,  Pearl  will be seen monthly  (estimated $100 monthly).  She has been prescribed 4 medications.  Initial cost for one medication was $90.  We are waiting on the other 3.

Jane and her family are so appreciative of everyone's support.  They would not be able to pay for Pearl's medical expenses without your donations.   We pray that Pearl's condition stabilizes, that she remains painfree, and that she is able to retain enough vision to live a happy and independent life.   Please continue to share Pearl's story with others who may want to make a donation.

Pearl's Story:

Pearl is a 4 year old Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix rescue girl who was adopted by a loving family 3 years ago.  Since her adoption, Pearl's family has experienced significant personal loss and  ongoing financial hardships.  Pearl's daily companionship and unwavering love has given her family much needed comfort during some very difficult times.  Pearl is so much more than a pet. Her family has grown to rely on her for emotional support.

Unexpectedly on June 10th, Pearl was unable to open her right eye. After talking to the vet, it was decided that she didn't need an appointment but should be monitored at home.  Pearl initially showed some improvement but on Saturday, June 13th, Pearl's conditioned worsened.  She was taken to the vet immediately and was diagnosed with a "lens luxation" in her right eye.  Emergency surgery was recommended for that day but the cost was prohibitive ($4,500).  With pain medication and rest, surgery could wait until Monday for a lesser fee of $3,500.  Pearl's family does not have the resources to pay for her surgery.  As a friend of the family, I am helping them explore all options in hopes of raising the $3,600 needed to proceed with surgery on Monday.

A lens luxation means that the lens of the eye is no longer attached and is moving back and forth within the eye.  This can cause increased pressure in the eye resulting in blindness.  A lens luxation can be very painful.
