Pathways Addictions Resource Centre has been served notice by Interior Health that they (IH) are "repatriating" the 3 addictions contracts that Pathways has run for over 20 years. Pathways has been the cornerstone in the community for over 47 years providing a continuum of care for thousands of people who have struggled with substance use and addiction.

Where does this leave Pathways? As funding from IH makes up 95% of the budget (500,000.00), Pathways is uncertain how they will remain open after May 31, 2021.  Pathways may have to close its doors if funding cannot be found.  Substance use and addictions is far reaching and the stigma that comes from it has enormous layers.  The best chance people have in triggering change is to work together to understand addiction and the effect it has on everyone.  We have all been touched by substance use and addiction!!

Please Help Save Pathways!!!!

Pathways Addictions Resource Centre has a long standing relationship with Penticton and its citizens.  From its humble beginnings in 1975 as the South Okanagan Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Program with two counsellors to present day as a registered charity with the government of Canada, Pathways Addictions Resource Centre with a staff of 10, the philosophy remains the same: To foster the well-being of the whole person and their connectedness to self, family and community when dealing with substance use and addictions.

Pathways has been innovative in developing services based on client feedback. As Residential Treatment is not an option in Penticton, many clients face having to leave Penticton, their family and their employment to seek treatment for their addictions, creating a difficult barrier preventing them from seeking help.  By providing out-patient treatment programs for children through to seniors the people of Penticton do not have to leave their home and family to deal with substance use.  By offering programs working men are able to stay in their community to maintain employment and keep their family together while on their road to recovery.  Specific programs for women allow them to stay home with their children while working on their wellness plan.  Services to School District 67 have seen thousands of students receive substance use prevention education. Parenting programs have given parents the tools they need when dealing with their child’s substance use. As a proponent of the harm reduction model we provide an opioid replacement clinic for clients seeking treatment from opioid use disorder and are a registered naloxone training and distribution site.  We have established a specific program for people struggling with opioid addiction and they have a special Navigator to work with them.  As a community educator, Pathways offers workshops and seminars to different user groups and the general public on current topics related to addiction.
